Atascadero CA Area Guide

California's Central Coast is the perfect balance between urban and rural. The Central Coast is home to artists, celebrities, world-class festivals, an emerging wine region and even a castle, yet the atmosphere is relaxed and casual. As you make your way down scenic Highway One from Monterey to Santa Barbara, and everywhere in between, you will come across wildlife refuges, state parks and beautiful beaches. See the Central Coast Tourism Council website for more details about the area.

Charles Paddock Zoo
Located in Atascadero, Charles Paddock Zoo offers an awareness of biodiversity in Nature, presenting animals and their habitats from around the world. This accredited zoo exhibits over 100 animals in naturalistic habitats on 5 park-like acres within beautiful Atascadero Lake Park.

Paso Robles Wine Country
Halfway between the two main California metropolises of Los Angeles and San Francisco is Paso Robles Wine Country. Located along California's famed Central Coast, the Paso Robles winegrape growing region's climate is perfect for the production of award-winning premium wines. A long growing season of warm days and cool evenings give rise to vibrantly ripened fruit with dynamic flavor profiles that translate beautifully in your glass of Paso Robles wine.

Traversing the landscape you will find 26,000 vineyard acres, producing more than 40 winegrape varieties - from Spanish to Italian, Bordeaux to Rhône, including the area's heritage variety Zinfandel. The styles of wine are diverse in this very distinct region.
Neighboring Paso Robles along the coast are the towns of San Simeon, home to Hearst Castle on the north, and the fishing village of Morro Bay to the south. In between you will find Cambria, Harmony, and Cayucos. All are within a short drive and worthy of your exploration.

Much like the marine air influence to the winegrapes, the coast is a perfect complement to your Paso Robles Wine Country experience.  We invite you to discover Paso Robles Wine Country.

Paso Robles Event Center
The Event Center presents year-round events, shows, conventions, exhibitions and sports, including Central Coast Roller Derby, Mid-State Fall Home Show, and the signature event, The California Mid-State Fair for 12 days in July/August with a concert series featuring top-name entertainers, rides, shows, exhibits and great food. In addition during the year there are cattle and horse shows, equestrian and livestock events and great family entertainment.

Atascadero Wine Association

There's a new wine association that provides boutique, excellent wineries with a way to get the word out about their products. The Atascadero Wine Association blazes a new "Atascadero Wine Trail" to the doorsteps of these small wineries.

Atascadero Wine Association is not a substitute or replacement for some of the larger wine organizations in the area. It is meant to complement them, providing visitors with a choice for boutique wineries for wine-tasting visitors.

Lake Nacimiento
Lake Nacimiento is a water sports oasis just 20 minutes west of Paso Robles. The lake offers outdoor recreational opportunities, including excellent fishing, boating, water skiing, or sunbathing, and a surrounding wilderness that make for a distinctive hiking site.
